What's your weird writer thing?

One of the core beliefs of this experiment is we deserve actual tools to get unstuck, not advice on what worked for whatever famous author or some cis white business bro telling us how to have better habits.

But I am sort of fascinated with the overall fascination around famous writer habits.

What's your weird writer thing?

Come up with 5 things that might be part of your writing process if you were a famous writer. Weird things that people would definitely talk about.

Here are mine:

  • Finn always wanted to write in a cave, so while he was on vacation, he befriended a tour guide at a cave that was a local tourist attraction, and the guide let him into the cave to write for a half hour each morning before it opened to the public. Finn said that between the location and the firm time constraint, he did the best writing of his life there.
  • When beginning a new project, Finn buys a new notebook and goes to a coffee shop in a neighborhood he's never been to. He gives a fake name to the barista and invents a different persona for this name while he's waiting for his coffee. He says this helps him get a fresh start and not worry about what others will think of the project.
  • Regardless of location, whenever possible, Finn prefers to face south when he writes. He says he can just tell. It feels different in his body.
  • Finn has a special plant that sits at his writing desk. He gives the plant a little water from his water bottle every day as an offering.

Is there a way you can incorporate part of your weird writer thing into your current writing process?
