How to Survive as a Writer in a Capitalist Dystopia by Russell Nohelty
I just finished reading How to Survive as a Writer in a Capitalist Dystopia and I was intrigued by how he broke down audience growth.
Specifically:
- It's ok and very possible to pay for advertising to get newsletter leads, and you can see this as a way of automating your list growth and a fee you can pay to get out of needing to be on social media
- Most publishers launch 10 books and 1 makes up the costs for the rest
- He writes this many books and launches them each year. He does Kickstarter. He sends as many emails as he thinks have value.
- He says if you feel like what you make or what you have to say has value, then you have an obligation to share it and to find more people who resonate with your message
- He says most authors don't know how to sell and it's about resonance selling - showing people how your thing will help them. People don't buy without an epiphany.
